CLEANING YOUR IBM WINDOWS SYSTEM
The screen-shot below is what your machine looked like when it was rebuilt at STAROCK Diversity. The icons on the right of the screen are for your convenience to find the protective software that was originally loaded for your system. THE FIRST THREE ARE NOT UPDATEABLE! They are designed to keep your machine running smooth and efficiently with the proper updating, immunization and scanning as described in the following pages. These are for your use only and not transferable!
Please be sure to follow the guidelines in the following pages for the most efficiency for your system. Be sure to empty your “Recycle Bin” and run “Disk Defragmenter” after running the cleaning software! Running “Disk Defragmenter” several times in a row will actually increase your machine performance!

Using Your Cleaning Tools
Let’s start by opening Ashampoo WinOptimizer. DO NOT UPDATE!!!
Click on the “One Click Optimization” ball. DO NOT UPDATE!!!
Next, click the “Start” button. It will perform a “Safe” scan of the hard drive and remove
all misplaced bad references, along with redundant files that are no longer needed.
Follow the prompts. DO NOT UPDATE!!!
Next, let’s open “Registry First Aid”….

DO NOT UPDATE THIS PROGRAM!!!
Click “Next”, “Start” and we will perform a “System Restore Backup”, just in
case of some future problem. Always take the safe course and BACKUP!!
Click “OK” to make a “System Restore” reference, like “Cleaning”. Click on the
“Create a restore point” and then “Next”….

Change the selection to “Create a restore point”.
Type in a name for the reference like “Cleaning” and click on “Close”. Next, click on “Start”. It will now scan for registry changes that are wrong, invalid paths and such. It should only find and remove “Safe” references. It will find and remove the “Tray App”, which is spyware from HP printers if you have one installed. You can turn off “Tray App” using the “Startup Tuner” in “Ashampoo”. Only turn off the HP reference!
Click on “OK” on the “Error” box and click on any box on the left panel that has found a reference in it EXCEPT the top one! At the bottom left, click the “Fix It” button and

Open “Spybot Search & Destroy” and click “Search for Updates”.
If there is an available update, click on one of the servers to download from and click “Continue”

Click on the “Download” button to continue…
When the download is complete, click “Exit” and return to the main screen of the
Program. In the left panel, click on the “Immunize” button and follow prompts.
When the process is complete, the top “Immunize” button should turn GREEN
Immunization allows you to take preventative measures against spyware by using
methods inside your browser(s). This is the final important step to protect your computer.
Now, click on the “Check for Problems” button and kill these bad guys!

Next, open “SpywareBlaster” and click on “Download Latest Protection Updates”
And click on “Check for Updates” button.
If there are updates, be sure to click on “Enable All Protection”!
There is no scan for this program. It runs silently in the background blocking the
“Bad Guys” from gaining access to your browser(s).
Now, EMPTY YOUR “RECYCLE BIN”!!!

EMPTY THE “RECYCLE BIN” BEFORE RUNNING!!
Open “Disk Defragmenter” (My Computer> Right Click “C” Drive> Properties> Tools Tab> Defragment Button.
Click once on the “C” Drive (so it turns blue) and click on the “Defragment” button.
Probably go to bed now, as this may take some time to perform! Will be good to go in the morning! This will also be a good time to have your system get updates and do a virus scan during the night. Thursday’s are the best time to do these procedures, as must updates for ALL programs are generated on Wednesday – Thursday of each week.
